Replace missing teeth in Rochester

Missing or failing teeth can look unsightly and lower your self-esteem. You may feel embarrassed to smile or socialise with others. There are two main options to replace missing teeth or teeth in very poor condition: dental implants or you can wear dentures.

Patients from Rochester, Chatham, Gillingham and beyond are having dental implants fitted as they are the only option to give you permanent and natural looking teeth. Unlike dentures, you do not have to remove the false teeth to clean them or to go to sleep. Once dental implants are fitted into your gums, you can carry on and live your life as normal.

Dental Implants

There are three parts to the dental implant. The implant itself acts like your new tooth root and is gently placed into your gum and jawbone using a local anaesthetic. The second part is a rod which is inserted into the implant and this holds the third and final part – the crown in place. The crown is the new false tooth which can be seen in your mouth.

The Types of Dental Implants

At Eastgate Dental, we offer two types of dental implants, and these are broadly based on how many missing teeth you have:

  • Single dental implant: This is used to replace a single missing tooth. This type of dental implant would be suitable if you have one or two gaps in your mouth
  • All-on-4 dental implants are more suitable for those patients who have many missing teeth or many teeth in poor condition or for those patients who have no teeth at all. All-on-4 dental implants use just 4 implants in either the upper or lower jaw to support a complete set of brand-new teeth

Are Dental Implants in Rochester Right For You?

Dental implants are suitable for you if you:

  • Have many missing teeth, a single missing tooth or if you have no teeth at all
  • If you have many failing teeth or teeth in poor condition
  • Want to improve your smile and boost your self-confidence
  • Don’t want to wear dentures and are looking for a more permanent alternative
  • Find dentures uncomfortable or affect your speech

The Difference Between Dental Crowns and Dental Implants?

A crown is the top part of the tooth; the part that you can see sitting in your gums. A dental crown is made for you if your existing tooth becomes worn down, cracked, or badly decayed. It differs from a dental implant because there is no root or incision made into your gum; a dental crown only replaces the top of your tooth.

Dental crowns are custom-made for you and are colour-matched to the other teeth in your mouth. Your tooth will first be prepared for your new crown. Your dentist will clean and shape your tooth, and then an impression will be taken so that your dental crown will fit exactly. You may be fitted with a temporary crown until your final dental crown is made and ready for you.

FAQ's about Dental Implants

How long does it take to fit dental implants?

Each patient is different, and your dentist will need to assess the health of your gums and any teeth that you currently have. If your gums are healthy, some implants can be fitted in the same day allowing you to have same day teeth. Other patients who need more care taken with their gums and bones may take months to fit dental implants.

How long do dental implants last for?

This again varies according to each patient. With a good oral hygiene dental implants can last for many years and even a lifetime.

What type of care do I need after having dental implants fitted?

You will need to brush your teeth and gums regularly and thoroughly. You will also need to visit your dentist and hygienist on a regular basis to check on the health of your implants, teeth and gums. It is important that you maintain a good oral hygiene to prevent any risk of infection or risk getting gum disease. The better your oral hygiene, the longer your dental implants will last.
